WCW Beach Blast (July 9, 2006)

WCW Beach Blast
The PPV Recap
July 9, 2006
San Diego, CA
The Cox Arena

More red, white and blue pyro fills the arena as Tony Schiavone and Larry Zbyszko welcome the home audience to WCW Beach Blast, live on PPV.  Larry and Tony are joined by The Disco Inferno, who was out previously during the Main Event, to help with the commentary.

Zbyszko, Schiavone & Disco recap what happened earlier on the WCW Main Event program and we watch the camera zoom to ringside to where Adam Copeland & Amy Dumas are sitting, smiling and holding hands while preparing to enjoy the show.  Schiavone wants to know why they're here - they do not work for WCW.  Disco states the obvious and says if you want to know why, just go ask them.  Schiavone & Disco argue back and forth and Zbyszko interupts - he'll ask them in just a moment. First, we have to go to Penzer for the start of the PPV.

Penzer is in the ring and asks everyone to please rise as Miss Brooke Hogan will now come down and start WCW Beach Blast by singing "America The Beautiful".  Brooke comes from backstage and the crowd erupts in a strong mixture of cheers and boos for the young lady.  She climbs in the ring and sings her song for the sold-out capacity arena full of wrestling fans.

As Brooke finishes, we cut to Larry Zbyszko who has walked to ringside to where Adam Copeland & Amy Dumas are sitting - Larry has the mic and wants to know why they're here in WCW and at Beach Blast?  Adam says that he goes where he wants to go and does what he wants to do... he and Amy were in the area and decided to come see some "rasslin'"....  Zbyszko wants to know if this means they've signed with WCW.  Adam says they haven't signed anything - they're just fans tonight and they want to see some action...

We go to Penzer who introduses the participants for the first match at WCW Beach Blast...

WCW TV CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT:  SEMI-FINALS
RICO w/ soce the elemental wizard versus MIKE YOUNGBLOOD

Rico takes the early advantage with several kicks and punches.  Chops by Youngblood as he fights back and a big clothesline.  Suplex by Youngblood and he hits the big flying elbow. Mike starts to cover, but Soce is up on the apron.  Youngblood gets up and goes over to confront the hip-hop rapping manager - Soce grabs Youngblood as he gets close and tries to give him the "Kiss of Doom", but as Soce grabs Youngblood, we see Youngblood grab Soce and kiss him - hard.. and grabbing a handful of butt for good measure.  Soce is shocked and speechless as Youngblood has beat him at his own game - Youngblood raises an arm and smiles as the fans holler and acknowledge his turning the tables on Soce, but as Youngblood turns around, he walks right into a superkick by Rico.  Rico covers and gets the pin.
Winner:  RICO w/ Soce the Elemental Wizard

As Soce raises Rico's arm in victory, we see him cast a quick and confused  glance at the fallen Youngblood.

We now go backstage where Terri Runnels is standing by with Marty Jannetty and Eric Angle.  They note that Rico just won his match and soce had better relish that victory because its the only one that "Team Elementalz" is getting tonight.  Jannetty predicts that at the end of the night, he and Angle will be the NEW WCW World Tag Team Champions.  Angle adds that if soce wants to get involved, that's fine, but he will end up wishing he was back at Yale rapping about Space Invaders and Pac Man... because Angle says he will make soce tap..

Goldberg steps into the picture.  Tonight, in the Octagon, it's Goldberg versus Puder.  Puder is undefeated in the world of MMA... and Goldberg is.... well, he's Goldberg.  And he's no stranger to the mixing it up and doing what it takes.  Puder got involved in his business.. and tonight, finally, it all comes around because Daniel Puder - "You're Next!"...

Back to Penzer for the next match..

WCW TV CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT - SEMI-FINALS
BARRY WINDHAM versus EVAN KARAGIAS w/ Jimmy Valiant

Windham and Karagias lock up and its quickly Barry with the advantage as he over-powers Karagias and proceeds to beat him down with clubbing forearms and clotheslines.  Karagias with a jawbreaker to escape and several kicks to the legs.  It's all Evan, but Barry uses the power again to push Karagias away and score with a bulldog.  Evan gets out at two when Valiant puts his foot on the ropes for the break.  Windham with punches and kicks.  Karagias with a cradle - and Valiant reaches in to grab Evan's arms for extra leverage as Karagias holds on while referee Hage Patel makes the three count.
Winner:  EVAN KARAGIAS w/ Jimmy Valiant

We go backstage where Bob Caudle is standing by with Luna Vachon.  Luna talks about the manure bath last week on Nitro.  We see video of the incident as Luna and hubby Gangrel were covered with manure, courtesy of Brock Lesnar and Sable.  Luna says it's taken her all week to wash off the smell and she hates Sable.  She hates her!  Luna is like a deranged animal as she talks about ripping Sable's hair from her head and peeling the flesh off her back.  Caudle is standing there speechless as Luna rants.  Luna lets out a high piercing shriek of anguish and stalks off towards the ring.

We see Eric Bischoff backstage talking to "The Giant" Paul Wight and Joel Gertner.  They know the plan - don't screw it up.  Eric tells Gertner and Wight to go get ready for their match.  Christy Hemme approaches Eric as Giant and Gertner leave.  She wants to have a moment of Eric's time and speak with him in private.  Eric says OK and they walk off talking..

Again to Penzer for the next match...

DIVA STREET FIGHT
LUNA VACHON versus SABLE

Schiavone informs the fans that both Gangrel and Brock Lesnar have both been banned from ringside.  It's short and sweet as both ladies, dressed in jeans and t-shirts quickly end up rolling around on the mat - both with hands full of hair.  Sable with some kicks to the stomach and an attempt at the Sable Bomb, but Luna goes nuts and just explodes, scoring with a big DDT.  Luna rips and claws at Sable's face and just beats on her unmercifully before finally ending it with a brainbuster suplex as referee Russ Cherico makes the pin count.
Winner:  LUNA VACHON

We head backstage and see Gangrel watching the moniter as Luna celebrates in the ring.  He smiles and the fangs glisten.  He's happy.

We go to Terri Runnels who is standing by with soce the elemental wizard, Rico and the WCW World Tag Team Champions, Hugh Morrus & Tank Abbott.  Rico is all smiles as he's just one step away from becoming the WCW World TV Champion.  All he has to do is beat Evan Karagias at Nitro tomorrow night and history will be made.  Rico promises to win the match, win the title and then he's going out with Hugh, Tank, Puder and Soce and they're going to celebrate all of their victories and titles.  Abbott speaks and says that Rico is right - let the party begin because there is no way that Jannetty and Angle can beat him and Morrus - especially not for the titles.  Morrus mentions that Chetti and Stasiak won their match earlier on the main event and will face the champions tomorrow on Nitro.  Morrus acts scared - maybe they should just drop the belts tonight to Jannetty and Angle so they don't have to face the dangerous team of "Hot Stuff" on Nitro.  Abbott says that maybe Hugh is right.   Morrus, Abbott, Soce and Rico all look at each other and break into fits of laughter.  Soce says that for their opponents tonight and tomorrow - it'll be no laughing matter.. because the belts are staying with Team Elementalz..  As for Puder's match against Goldberg, Soce calls Goldberg all man and all sexy brawn, but no brains... and he's going to be outwrestled, out-thought, and out-manned by the power of Daniel Puder.. Soce says that Puder is fired up like never before because Goldberg dared to lay his hands on Soce on Nitro - and now it's time to pay the bar-tab because tonight, Goldberg is next!  Soce ends by saying that after Puder beats Goldberg within an inch of his life and Goldberg has learned his lesson, Soce might decide to give him a break and give him a job as his house-boy... because tonight, Goldberg's in-ring career comes to a screeching halt...

We see another shot of Adam Copeland and Amy Dumas still sitting at ringside and chatting with each other.  They're all smiles and clearly enjoying the show thus far.

We go now to Dave Penzer at ringside - a steel cage has been erected around the ring. It's time for the next match.

Ernest "The Cat" Miller has come to ringside and joined Zbyszko, Schiavone & Disco at the Announce position.

SIX MAN TAG - CAGE MATCH
TULLY BLANCARD, C.W. ANDERSON & CHARLIE HAAS w/ Woman - THE HORSEMEN versus "THE CHOSEN ONE" JEFF JARRETT, "BIG POPPA PUMP" SCOTT STEINER & SCOTT HALL

It's brutal and violent and all six men are quickly covered in red as the blood starts to flow and the violence is incredible.  Referee Brent Robinson has his hands full and finally just steps back and lets the men fight.  In the end, C.W. Anderson flattens Jarrett with the DDT, but Steiner breaks up the pin attempt.  Hall hits Haas with a Samoan Drop for two, but Blancard breaks it up.  We see Tully holding Hall while Woman is up and tosses powder at Hall, but Scott ducks and the powder goes into the face of Blancard, who is now blinded.  Hall hits the Razors Edge on Tully and gets the pin for his team.
Winners:  SCOTT STEINER, SCOTT HALL & JEFF JARRETT

We go backstage again and see Christy Hemme coming out of Eric Bischoff's office.  Bob Caudle is backstage and asks Christy what's going on - what was her meeting with Eric Bischoff about.  Hemme smiles and says that tomorrow on Nitro, her team of Chris Chetti & Shawn Stasiak aka "Hot Stuff" gets a shot at the WCW Tag Team Championship... Well, she's just convinced Eric to add another title match to the show because she, Christy Hemme, will be facing the WCW Women's Champion, Ivory for the title as well...  Hemme says that it will be a hot night for herself, Stasiak and Chetti - truly some "hot stuff"

A video promo airs - coming on August 6, 2006 from the Bike Rally in Sturgis, SD - it's the next big WCW PPV Event:  WCW ROAD WILD...

We see a shot up into the rafters at the top of the Cox Arena.  We see a figure dressed entirely in black crouched down and watching the show below.  We see the reflection of white paint on the face as the figure quickly turns away from the camera angle and all we can see is the back of the trenchcoat jacket.

Time to go to ringside for the next match...

WCW WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
HUGH MORRUS & TANK ABBOTT (c) w/ Rico versus ERIC ANGLE & MARTY JANNETTY

Rico is with Morrus & Abbott and Disco wonders where Soce is - probably backstage thinking about Youngblood and that kiss.  "The Cat" calls Disco an idiot and says that Soce is obviously helping Puder get ready for his match against Goldberg.  Morrus and Abbott take the quick advantage over Angle and use the power advantage to beat the Philadelphia native into the mat.  Eric fights back with suplexes and hot-tags Jannetty who unloads with dropkicks and clotheslines.  Morrus is knocked to the floor and Marty tags Angle.  They set up Abbott for the Rocker Launcher, but Rico is up and has the referee, Hage Patel distracted.  Angle has Abbott covered, but the referee is slow to get in postion and Abbott kicks out at two as Morrus is back to make the save.  Jannetty is in now and all four men are fighting. The referee is trying to restore order, but as he gets Morrus and Jannetty out of the ring, Rico reaches in from the outside and levels Eric Angle with a low blow from the outside.  Abbott with a belly-to-belly suplex to get the pin.
Winners and still champions:  TANK ABBOTT & HUGH MORRUS w/ Rico

We go to ringside and the announce table where Schiavone leads a discussion about everything that has transpired so far.  Disco makes some comments and again, Ernest Miller calls him an idiot.  Disco says that Miller is just jealous because Disco is a better wrestler, a better "ladies man" and a better dancer than Miller.  Cat tells him that he's a bigger moron than anyone and says that someone better call his mama because he's fixin' to beat someone up.  Disco says he knows he's a better dancer and suggests that he and Miller have a "dance-off"... Miller says OK and they'll do it tomorrow on Nitro.  Disco says that it'll be a ratings blockbuster as the whole world just lives to see the Disco Inferno dance.  Miller tells him to shut his mouth and gets up to leave before he has to shut it up for Disco.  Disco is talking junk as Miller gets up and Miller cuts loose with a big kick that clears the announce table and knocks Disco to the floor right out of his seat. Miller's music plays as he smiles and heads to the back while Schiavone and some WCW officials help Disco up..

We see a video package recap of the situations that have developed between Brock Lesnar and Gangrel... We see Brock and his lady, Sable, as the victim of two "Blood Baths" and we see Gangrel and his lady, Luna, on the receiving end of a manure bath last week on Nitro...

Down to Penzer for the next match..

FIRST BLOOD MATCH
BROCK LESNAR versus GANGREL

Schiavone says that, as in the earlier match, this time, Luna and Sable are banned from ringside.  It's brutal as Brock just dominates Gangrel with a series of takedowns and submission-style moves.  Brock is clubbing away at the head of Gangrel and trying to bust him open.  Gangrel fights back with some chops and kicks and a big spiked DDT to the mat.  We see Gangrel reaching into his tights and he's got a foreign object.  It's a screwdriver.  Gangrel swings the pointed object at Brock, who manages to duck and scoop Gangrel up for a big F-5.  Brock picks up the screwdriver and goes over to Gangrel and just starts jabbing the hard metal object into the forehead of the psuedo-vampire.  Blood is beginning to pour from the forehead and cover the face of Gangrel.  Referee Tommy Young calls for the bell as the crimson mask begins.
Winner:  BROCK LESNAR

Brock raises his arms in victory and just stands over the bloody Gangrel as medics swarm the ring to help the bloody and beaten wrestler.

We go backstage again and see Linda Hogan and Brooke talking to Nick Hogan.  Linda still wants to just leave - to heck with the match. Nick says that his dad, Hulk, has been in a slump and needs to snap out of it.  There's a lot on the line tonight, but Nick has faith that Hulk can beat The Giant.  They have to do it - for him, for Hulkamania.  Brooke hugs her brother - she doesn't want him to have to go with Eric Bischoff.  Nick says that they have nothing to worry about.  Dad has it all under control...

We see a dark figure quickly getting into a limo out behind the arena - it's the same figure that was crouching in the rafters of the Cox Arena earlier.  We see Terri Runnels coming out with a microphone, hollering, "Sting - Sting... we want to ask you!"  The car speeds off and leaves Terri standing there alone..

We go back to the arena and the camera scans the crowd - we see the foursome of Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Jason Lee and Kevin Smith at ringside.  Smith holds up a sign that says "Clerks 2" - coming soon as Matt and Ben make "devil horns" behind Kevin's head with their fingers.

We now cut to an UFC-style Octagon that's been set up in the far side of the arena for the next match.  Rich Landrum is in the ring and will be the announcer for this event... Landrum introduces the men at ringside who will act as the judges if this bout goes the full scheduled three rounds, UFC President Dana White, UFC Fighter Randy Coture and UFC Legend / Former NWA World Champion Ken Shamrock.  Landrum then introduces the man who will officiate this fight - former UFC and NWA World Champion Dan "The Beast" Severn.  Landrum  explains the rules and then introduces the two men who will now compete in the Octagon.

GOLDBERG versus DANIEL PUDER w/ soce the elemental wizard.

Both men are focused and staring straight ahead as Severn explains the rules to them.  The intensity is incredible.  Even Soce is quiet.... Lock up and Goldberg immediately scores with a takedown and several elbow shots to the face.  He tries to get a submission hold locked in, but Puder manages to duck under and go behind, and lock up the arm in the kimura or keylock.  Blood is coming down Puder's face from the elbow shots, but he's in control of Goldberg now and really tightens down on the arm.  Goldberg is fighting and resisting, but Puder manages to sinch in the hold and we hear Goldberg scream in pain.  Referee Severn is down and talking to Goldberg and we see Goldberg nodding.. Severn calls for the bell.
Winner by Submission:  DANIEL PUDER

Goldberg is clutching his arm in agony as Puder backs up and gets a big hug from Soce. Medics attend to Goldberg and it looks as if he's been seriously injured.

We now go backstage where Rich Landrum is with Booker T and Sharmell.  Tonight, they are going into a triple-threat match for the WCW World Championship against the champion, Sean O'Haire and the other challenger, "The Total Package" Lex Luger...  Booker calls Luger and O'Haire "suckas" and says that tonight, it's time for him to become, finally, the six-time, six-time, six-time, six-time, six time, six-time WCW Champion....

Eric Bischoff walks up.  He apologizes to Booker for interupting, but he just got off the telephone and it's been finalized.  He has a big announcment for tomorrow night at WCW Nitro that will affect everyone in WCW and every WCW Fan...... Terri presses Eric to reveal it now, but he smiles a huge smile and says that she'll find out tomorrow night... and the face of wrestling will change forever.  And now, Eric says that he's going to ringside to watch "The Giant" Paul Wight kill Hogan.. and to claim his "new son", Nick.

Down to Penzer at ringside...

"CUSTODY MATCH" - IF HULK LOSES - ERIC BISCHOFF GETS TEMPORARY CUSTODY OF NICK HOGAN FOR 30 DAYS...

"THE GIANT" PAUL WIGHT w/ Joel Gertner versus HULK HOGAN w/ Nick Hogan

Before the match can start, we see Eric Bischoff come to ringside to join Schiavone and Zbyszko at the announce position.  He wants to watch this match up close.  We see Linda and Brooke Hogan sitting at ringside looking all nervous and fearful.  Giant immediately dominates Hulk with headbutts and chops and a big slam as Gertner cheers him on from ringside.  Kick by Giant and a cover for two.  Another huge slam and a suplex for another two.  It's all the Giant and things don't look good for Nick who's crouched down at ringside and looking worried.  Big chokeslam by Giant and he covers Hulk again, but we see Hulk get a foot on the ropes to break the pin at two.  Giant picks up Hogan and delivers a big chop, but this time, it has no effect.  Hogan starts shaking and "hulking up" with a series of punches to the face of the Giant.  Big slam on the 500lb Giant by Hogan as he poses for the fans.  Hulkamania is running wild!  Hogan throws Giant into the ropes and catches him with the boot!  Eric is beside himself at ringside screaming, "No! No! No!"... Hogan nails Gertner, who has climbed on to the ring spron and then Hogan hits the legdrop and covers for the pin.  From ringside, we see Nick Hogan.  He has something in his hand.  It's a taser - he reaches through the ropes and shocks his father with some high voltage!  Hogan rolls off the Giant, his body convulsing and shaking. The Giant pulls himself quickly up and chokeslams Hogan to the mat.  The Giant covers and referee Tommy Young counts the pin.
Winner:  THE GIANT w/ Joel Gertner

Eric Bischoff climbs into the ring and we see him and Nick Hogan embracing in a big hug as a very upset and tearful Linda Hogan and Brooke Hogan watch from ringside.  We can read Linda's lips as she asks, "Why?"  The ref is checking on Hogan as a smiling Eric and a smiling Nick Hogan raise the Giant's arms in victory....

We go backstage now where Tully Blancard and Woman are talking with Charlie Haas & C.W. Anderson.  Tully is upset that they lost the match and says that in the old days, the Horsemen would have destroyed Jarrett and his partners.  Haas reminds Tully that this isn't the old days... and these are the new Horsemen.  Woman says that they had a plan, but everyone didn't do their part and it failed.  That is not acceptable.  The bickering continues and WCW World Champion Sean O'Haire and Dawn Marie walk up.  O'Haire quiets everyone up.  No fighting among ourselves! He has to go defend the WCW World Title now.  Things didn't work out so well earlier, but they'll rebound - they always do.  Tully interjects that they shouldn't have to rebound - the job should have been done.  O'Haire tells Tully that he's the leader of the Horsemen now and they do things his way... period.  Tully questions his leadership abilities and O'Haire says that being the WCW World Champion makes him the leader.  But if Tully thinks he can handle the Jarrett situation better, feel free to do so.  Tully says he might just do that.  O'Haire tells Tully that they'll talk about it later. He has to go defend his title.  O'Haire and Dawn Marie walk off as the rest of the Horsemen watch...

We go to Penzer at ringside....

TRIPLE THREAT RULES - WCW WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
SEAN O'HAIRE (c) w/ Dawn Marie versus "THE TOTAL PACKAGE" LEX LUGER versus BOOKER T w/ Sharmell

It's the classic three man match as O'Haire and Luger are going at it, but just when O'Haire looks ready to get a pin, Booker is there to break things up and, when Booker gets the advantage, Luger breaks it up and so on. Just constant back and forth that includes a great "tower of doom" spot as Luger sets up Booker for a superplex, but we see O'Haire move in and level both with a powerbomb.  In the end, Luger catches Booker with a flying forearm off the ropes.  Lex goes for the "Torture Rack", but as hoists up Booker, he gets nailed with a superkick by O'Haire.  Luger falls back with Booker on top and referee Parker Paige counts two as O'Haire pulls Booker off and tosses him to the floor.  Sean looks at Luger and climbs to the top for the Swanton.  Sharmell is up to grab his foot, but we see Dawn Marie pull Sharmell down.  CAT FIGHT on the outside!  O'Haire flies and connects with the swanton.  He's got Lex covered,  but here is Booker back to break things up.  Booker tosses O'Haire to the floor, and sets up Lex, waiting to deliver the axe-kick, but Lex moves and stiff-arms Booker to the face.  Booker is stunned and Lex goes for the "Torture Rack" again, but drops Booker as he sees O'Haire back up on the apron.  Lex moves towards Sean. but Sean dives over the top ropes and uses a sunset flip (and a handful of tights) to get the pin on Luger.
Winner and still champion:  SEAN O'HAIRE w/ Dawn Marie

As Dawn and Sean celebrate at ringside, we see another shot of Adam Copeland talking to Amy Dumas at ringside and applauding the match they just watched.

Schiavone and Zbyszko comment on the match they just watched and all of the things that have happened tonight.  Nick Hogan apparantly turned on his father and joined Eric Bischoff, problems within the Horsemen, Goldberg is hurt, Copeland and Dumas are at ringside, Sting was here... what will happen next?  And what is Eric Bischoff's big announcement that will change the face of wrestling?  Tune in tomorrow on Nitro to find out....  They're out of time!  Schiavone thanks the fans for watching and we fade to black...

THE END..
