WCW Clash Of The Champions (May 24, 2006)

Clash of the Champions
May 24, 2006
Phelps Arena
Atlanta, Georgia

Tony Schiavone, Dutch Mantell & Mark Madden welcome the fans to the return of WCW Clash of Champions - from Hotlanta, GA.  This is the first Clash in close to nine years - and it's going to be a super card.  The main event will be in the cage as the WCW World Champion, Sean O'Haire is defending the WCW Championship against the challenge of former nine-time World Champion Harley Race.  Plus the next three hours are jammed packed with all the top WCW Superstars and nine big main-event caliber matches.

And the crowd erupts and music plays as here comes Hulk Hogan to the ring.  Hulk Hogan gets a mixed reaction from the crowd as there are as many boos as cheers.  Hogan gets on the mic.  Two nights ago on Nitro, he did the world a favor. People say Hogan is selfish and that he doesn't "put over" talent.  Well, Hogan "let X-Pac beat me!"  But he wrestled X-Pac on Monday for Eric Bischoff. And Hogan thinks it's a slap in the face for someone of his caliber to wrestle a punk-kid who's only claim to fame is making bad porn with his best friend's favorite transvestite.  Hogan could've ended that match anytime he wanted to, but he decided to be a "nice guy" and give Waltman his moment in the sun.  But now he wants his reward.  Bischoff promised him creative control and a shot at the WCW World Championship.  And he's going to be a part of the match tonight in the cage.  It's now a Triple-Threat match for the WCW World Championship.

Here comes Eric Bischoff.  He doesn't even wait for his music as he storms the ring.  He made Hogan a promise if he got the job done.. and that meant beating Waltman up and softening Waltman up for Cyrus tonight.  Hogan didn't do it - he got beat and pinned instead.  So there's no triple threat.  Hogan is not wrestling tonight because he didn't do what Eric wanted.

Hogan says that all Eric said was wrestle Waltman and soften him up and you can name your place and time for the next WCW World title shot.  Well, Hogan softened him up and Hogan is naming his time and place - here, tonight, in the cage with Race & O'Haire.

Eric looks ready to argue, but then a smile crosses his face. "OK Hulk, you're right.  I made a promise. Tonight, you will be in the cage with Race & O'Haire and will be competing for the WCW World Championship.  I should have been more specific, but I wasn't.  So you get your shot!"  The fans boo loudly as Hogan & Eric shake hands.

We go backstage where Terri Runnels is standing by with Harley Race.  Race doesn't seem too surprised by this sudden addition of Hulk Hogan into the main event.  Race mentions that he's been hearing rumours all day that Hogan was up to something and since Hulk is the consumate politician, he's not surprised that Hulk will try to cash in on his and O'Haire's match.  But Harley doesn't care if Hulk Hogan is there.  He's been telling people for years that Hogan is a joke in the ring.  He already proved it once when he first came back to the ring and send Hogan packing into retirement.  Add Hogan to the match.  Add anyone.  It doesn't matter.  Race plans on walking out of that cage as a ten-time champion tonight.

Back now to ringside and David Penzer for the first match...

ANTONIO & ROMEO - THE HEART THROBS versus "THE BLACK NATURE BOY" SCOOT ANDREWS & "PRIMETIME" ELIX SKIPPER (with Jimmy "The Boogie Woogie Man" Valiant)

A great match to start the show as we see Primetime & Scoot take the early advantage by working on the leg of Romeo.  Antonio gets a cheap shot in from outside to allow Romeo to nail Andrews with a DDT.  Double-team by the Heart Throbs and Scott gets buried with a flapjack!  Skipper breaks up the pin attempt and cleans house with dropkicks and clotheslines as Valiant cheers him on from the outside. Skipper attempts to pin Antonio, but Romeo has the referee distracted.  Valiant is up on the apron to complain and the referee is distracted and tells Valiant to get back to the floor. The Heart Throbs take advantage of the distraction and hit a double-DDT on Skipper.  Antonio covers while Romeo cuts off Andrews and the ref counts three.
Winners:  THE HEART THROBS

We come back and immediately go to Terri Runnels who is standing by with Indian sensation Mike Youngblood.  Mike is holding a leather strap in his hands.  They're just minutes away from his match against his former friend, Ethan Storm.  Mike slaps the leather across his hand for effect and talks about how the leather can be used for pleasure (he smiles at Terri as he says this and she blushes) - or for pain.  And for someone who used to be his friend, but lied to him and turned on him like Storm did, it's going to be all pain and agony as Mike vows to drag him around that ring and give him the beating him Mama and Daddy should have.

We then cut over to the other interview area as Missy Hyatt is with Ethan Storm. Storm speaks quietly and clearly as he says that you can't believe everything you hear.  He never turned on Youngblood - Youngblood turned on him.  By lying about him behind his back.  By trying to make his own name at Storm's expense. Without Ethan Storm to push him and make him into a top wrestler, the world would never have heard of Mike Yopungblood.  Both as a partner and opponent, Storm has always carried Youngblood on his shoulders.  And Youngblood repaid him by stabbing him in the back.  Well tonight, it all comes to a head as Storm plans on using the "power of the punch" to lay Younblood out cold and then drag him from corner to corner and beat him at his own game.  Storm walks off and we go to ringside and David Penzer.

INDIAN STRAP MATCH - WRESTLER WINS BY DRAGGING OPPONENT AROUND RING AND TOUCHING ALL FOUR CORNERS IN SUCCESSION.
"PHOENIX" MIKE YOUNGBLOOD versus ETHAN STORM

Immediately, Youngblood starts off by straping Storm across the back with the leather strap.  He starts going around to the corners, but Storm pulls the strap and catches Youngblood between the legs.  Mike goes down and Ethan stomps away at him.  Suplex by Storm and he wraps the strap around Youngblood and starts dragging him around.  Before Storm can reach the fourth turnbuckle, Youngblood works free of the strap wrapped around him and starts lighting Storm's chest up with chops.  Slam by Mike and he tries to make that trip to the four corners again.  Storm resists and rips at the eyes of Youngblood.  Storm starts digging in his tights and we see him pull out a set of brass knucks, placing them on his left hand.  Storm winds up to nail Youngblood, but Youngblood manages to block the punch and nails Storm with a sickening thud of a headbutt, busting him open hardway.  More chops by Youngblood and the knucks go flying to the mat. Youngblood picks up the knucks and wallops Storm in the head.  Storm is out and we see Youngblood dragging Ethan Storm around to the corners to get the victory.
Winner:  MIKE YOUNGBLOOD

We come back and Rich Landrum is backstage with the leader of the Horsemen, Arn Anderson. Arn has some bad news for all the Horsemen fans.  We see footage from Monday Nitro as Jeff Jarrett slams his guitar across the head of Woman, knocking her senseless.  Back to Arn as he is extremely somber.  Most people aren't aware of this, but before returning to WCW, Woman had successful neck and back fusion surgery, similar to what Arn had a few years ago.    She's one of the toughest people Arn's ever met, but when Jarrett slammed that guitar down across her head, he jammed some of the vertebrae in her neck.  Woman is out indefinitely and is recovering at home.  She doesn't know when she'll be able to come back to wrestling or even if she will be able to return.  Arn is upset that Jarrett knew about Woman's surgeries and still went after her with the guitar.  She's a manager and not a wrestler and that was sickening, even for Jarrett.  Arn talks about how they (the Horsemen) should be on top of the world right now with O'Haire as the World Champion, but in the course of two weeks, they've lost both Miss Jackie due to her pregnancy and now Woman, because of Jarrett's disgusting attack.  ":But the Horsemen will rebound.  We always rebound!"  But Jarrett, there will be no type of rebound for him.  He crossed the line and he's going to learn exactly what it means to really cross the Horsemen.  Arn says that he knows that Jarrett isn't there at the Clash tonight, but they will both be at Nitro on Monday.  And Arn makes Jarrett a promise - payback is a definite bitch!

We go now to David Penzer for the next match...

SIX MAN TAG TEAM ACTION
MARTY JANNETTY, "YOUR NEW ADDICTION" KRAZY-K & JEFF HARDY
versus'
BUFF BAGWELL, "ABOVE AVERAGE" MIKE SANDERS & "THE MODEL OF EXCELLENCE" ROB CONWAY

Great six-man action that sees lots of good teamwork from both sides as they go back and forth with neither side able to keep the advantage for long. In the end, Conway misses a clothesline and gets nailed by a big "Twist of Fate" by Krazy K.  We see Jannetty and Jeff Hardy both climb to opposite corners and Jeff flies first, nailing Conway with the swanton.  As he rolls through, here comes Jannetty who scores with a big legdrop from the top.  Kirby quickly covers Conway and the referee counts three.
Winners:  MARTY JANNETTY, KRAZY K & JEFF HARDY

We come back and Terri Runnels is with Disco Inferno, Alex Wright, and Christy Hemme.  Disco and Alex are in Hemme's face and want to know if she's with them or against them.  Hemme doesn't give an answer right away and Wright says, "That's what I thought!  Get the hell away from me and go to your boyfriend!"  Hemme leaves. Disco and Alex are former World Tag Team Champions.  Do Colt Cabana and Lodi, of all people, really think they can beat them?  And make them wear a moneky suit?  It's not going to happen.  Colt is an grinning baboon! Lodi is a West Hollywood freak.... not that there's anything wrong with that - and at the end of the night, they're going to look like Magilla Gorilla & Grape Ape after Disco & Alex beat them down and pin them, one two three.  "And then", Disco says, "We're going to give the fans what they all really want to see.  Disco Inferno and Alex Wirght dance!"

We go now to Missy Hyatt who is with Colt Cabana & Lodi.  Colt is wearing the head of the monkey suit and Lodi tells him to take it off - it looks too much like his last date.  Lots of good natured clowing and verbal back and forth by Lodi and Colt as they trade innuendo laced comments.  Then Colt gets serious.  Alex got jealous of Christy singing me Happy Birthday.  We're friends!  Get used to it. So he and Disco decided to conspire and try to make a monkey out of me by putting me in this (holding up the monkey suit).  Well, tonight, those two are going into the monkey suits and we'll see who gets the last laugh.  Will it be "The Cassanova of Chicago" Colt Cabana & The "ECU Weapon of Mass Destruction" Lodi - or will it be the Dancing Fools?  Two words for them.  Ha & Ha!

We come back and it's to David Penzer..

LOSERS MUST PUT ON & WEAR MONKEY SUITS
COLT CABANA  & LODI (with Christy Hemme) versus DISCO INFERNO & ALEX WRIGHT

Disco and Alex are in the ring waiting as Lodi & Colt make their entrance.  They stop at the top of the ramp and Colt waves to the back.  Here comes Christy Hemme in their corner. Disco and Alex look pissed.  Fantastic tag team match that again, sees a lot of back and forth action.  The experience of Alex & Disco as a team is evident as we see Lodi & Colt miss a couple of tags and end up falling victim to some brutal double-teaming by Disco & Alex.  Lodi starts the comeback and catches Disco with an evenflow DDT before making the hot tag to Colt.  Colt is in with punches and clotheslines and cleans house on Disco & Alex.  Disco tries to mount a comeback and we see him signal  Alex to get the duck.  Alex has Disco's duck and is ready to wallop Colt with it when Christy Hemme grabs the duck from out of Alex's hands.  As Wright turns around, Hemme kicks him squarely in the grapefruits!  Disco is distracted by all of that and gets caught by Colt and a fisherman's suplex.  The ref counts three and Colt gets the pin.
Winners:  COLT CABANA & LODI (with Christy Hemme)

As Colt, Lodi & Hemme celebrate, we see the referee telling Disco & Alex that they have to put on the monkey suits.  Disco and Alex are complaining and refusing to put on the suits.  They're not going to do it!  Tony Schiavone stands up at ringside says something to David Penzer.  Penzer gets on the mic and says that he's just gotten word from the back that if Disco and Alex do not put on the monkey suits right now, as per the pre-match stipulation, they will both be fined and suspended indefinitely.

Disco and Alex are in the ring arguing with the referee and each other.  They reluctantly put on the monkey suits while standing in the ring.  The sold-out audience of 43, 232 is screaming and laughing as Disco & Alex are now dresses like apes.  Colt, at ringside, reaches under the ring and pulls out some bananas - tossing them to Disco and Alex.  Disco and Alex catch the bananas and hold them for a second before tossing them down in anger.  The two monkey-men quickly roll out of the ring and head up the ramp to the back while Colt, Lodi & Hemme celebrate in the ring.

We come back and see a replay of Disco and Alex putting on the monkey suits and Cabana tossing them bananas.  Then, we to ringside as Schiavone, Madden & Mantell review all the recent action taking place between Bill Goldberg and the manager of Rico and the World Tag Team Champions, Soce the Elemental Wizard.  We see a highlight video of Soce costing Goldberg a match against the Rock at Spring Stampede and then the constant stalking and harassment by Goldberg as he keeps popping up and tormenting the rapping hip-hopper turned wrestling manager with the warning, "You're Next!"

Goldberg comes down to the ring.  He has a microphone in his hands and starts calling out for Soce to get his scrawny butt down there.  Goldberg told him that he was next and the time is now.  We hear the sounds of "I'm That" (from the Lemonade Incident - available at http://www.greathip.com/)  fill the arena as Soce, Rico and the WCW World Tag Team Champions, Hugh Morrus & Tank Abbott come out on to the ramp.

Soce is kind of whining as he tries to convince Goldberg that it was all a misunderstanding and he's sorry.  Morrus snatches the microphone from his manager and says that he's sick of Goldberg trying to intimidate such a fine outstanding member of the community as his manager, Soce. Why doesn't Goldberg pick on someone his own size for a change?

Goldberg smiles and tells Morrus to come and do something about it.  We see Tank, Hugh and Rico all charge the ring and attack Goldberg in a vicious 3-on-1 beating.  Goldberg takes the beating for a few seconds and then manages to toss Rico over the top rope. Goldberg ducks a double-team clothesline by Morrus & Abbott and comes back with a vicious spear that sends both of them flying.  As Morrus & Abbott roll to the floor, Goldberg picks up the fallen mic and points at Soce, who is still standing on the rampway.  "Hey Soce, you're next!"

Suddenly, a figure comes through the crowd and tackles Goldberg from behind, quickly taking him down with a waistlock and locking in the keylock on the arm.  Goldberg is unable to put up much of a fight after being caught by surprise and is unable to escape!  "Oh my God, it's Daniel Puder!" screams Schiavone.  Puder has the keylock in on Goldberg and we see Goldberg tapping the mat.  Puder refuses to release the hold as Morrus, Rico & Abbott keep the referees and agents from getting into the ring and helping Goldberg.  Soce is in the ring though and he is talking trash to the helpless Goldberg and slaps him across the face a few times before telling Puder to let him go.  Goldberg falls helplessly to the mat, clutching his arm as Soce raises Puder's arm in victory.  Finally, Morrus, Abbott & Rico allow the referees and agents into the ring to help Goldberg as they follow Puder & Soce to the back as the audience erupts in boos.

We come back and Rich Landrum is with Soce, Daniel Puder, Rico & the WCW World Tag Team Champions, Hugh Morrus & Tank Abbott.  Soce grabs the mic and tells Landrum to take a long walk.  Nobody messes with Soce.  He's got the World Tag Team Champions. He's got Rico.  And now, he has his personal bodyguard, former Tough Enough Champion Daniel Puder.  Lots of hugs and self-congratulatory slaps on the back by all the wrestlers as Puder gets on the mic. Goldberg learned tonight and everyone will learn. Don't mess with Soce or else!  He just broke Goldberg's arm!  He had to learn the hard way!  Puder turns to Soce - "And now, it's time for that special celebration you promised!"  Soce grins, "Yeah baby yeah!" as the Elementals walk off.

Back to the ring and David Penzer for the next match.

WCW WOMENS CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
APRIL HUNTER (c) versus LISA "IVORY" MORETTI

A pretty quick match as we see Ivory take the early advantage by working on the arm of Hunter. Hunter manages to flip Ivory to the floor and follows her out, nailing the former champion with a clothelsine.  Slam by April and she goes up to deliver a flying Thesz press, but Ivory rolls through and has April tied up for a two count.  April switches her weight and grabs hold of the ropes for extra leverage as she counters with a roll of her own.  The ref counts three and that's it.
Winner and still Champion;  APRIL HUNTER

We come back and we see WCW Executive Director Cyrus speaking with Eric Bischoff.  Cyrus assures Eric that he will take care of Sean Waltman once and for all tonight.  Eric tells Cyrus that he'd better win the match or he'll have more than Sean Waltman to worry about.  Eric's depending on him and Cyrus had better not let him down... or else!  Cyrus promises Eric that he won't.

Back to Missy Hyatt who is standing by with two hardcore legends in Cactus Jack and Terry Funk.  In a few minutes, they're going to be competing against each other in a Hardcore match.  But here they are together.  What are their thoughts?  Cactus starts talking about how much he loves and respects Terry Funk and how they almost killed each other in Japan a few years ago.  Funk says that he remembers that and it was Cactus's stupidity that screwed things up. They had a good match going and Cactus decided to go all crazy on him.  Cactus says that Funk wrote the book on being stupid and crazy.  The exchange just gets more and more heated and the two men are nose to nose.  Funk tells Cactus "lets go to the ring!"  And they walk off, headed towards the ring.

We go to Penzer.

HARDCORE MATCH
CACTUS JACK versus TERRY FUNK

It's everything you'd expect plus more as Funk and Cactus just literally beat the pure heck out of each other.  We see chairs, tables, stop signs, trash cans, kendo sticks, and even the old branding iron from Funk.  In the end, Cactus nails Funk with the running clothesline to the floor.  A chairshot by Cactus and he places Funk on a table at ringside.  Cactus then gets on the apron and does the running elbow smash on to the table.  At the absolute last second, Funk rolls to the floor and Cactus crashes hard through the table.   Funk pulls himself up and slowly sets up another table on top of the wreckage from the first one.  He picks up Cactus and sets him on top of the table. A few extra punches for good measure and a quick bash upside the head with a trash can and then Terry leaves Cactus laid out on the table as he climbs into the ring and up on the top rope.  Moonsault by Funk on to the body of Cactus Jack and through the table.  A big "Holy Shit!" chant echoes throughout the arena.  Both men are down in a bloody and battered mess. Neither man is moving.  We see Cactus's arm sort of draped across Funk's chest and the referee drops down and counts three.
Winner:  CACTUS JACK

The referee checks on both men again and flashes the "X" to the back.  We see medics and stretchers quickly rushed out as we go to a video promo for the next big WCW PPV - coming on June 11, 2006.  It's WCW Bash At The Beach..

Back to Missy Hyatt backstage who is with Sean "X-Pac" Waltman, Kevin Nash & Scott Hall.  Hall & Nash tell Waltman to kick Cyrus's ass and have a great match before walking off. Waltman puts over Cyrus as probably one of the toughest tools he's ever had to face.  He's not underestimating what Cyrus can do in the ring, but he (Waltman) has no plans of going anywhere.  When he signed on to WCW, he signed on to stay around for a while.  Even with heat between him and Bischoff, he still feels he can help make WCW grow and number one again.  He's here for the boys!  He's here for Nash & Hall & the guys backstage who want to wrestle.  Cyrus & Hogan have been going behind his back and telling lies and caused him to be suspended.  That just isn't right.  Well, he's going to prove himself and his case in the ring tonight.  And if anyone has a problem with that, two words for them..... "Suck it!"

We now go to video highlighting all of the problems recently between Luna Vachon and the couple of Brock Lesnar and Sable.  Last week, we saw Vampiro get involved as he helped Luna set up and attack Brock and Sable.  And now we go to David Penzer..

MIXED TAG TEAM MATCH
BROCK LESNAR & SABLE versus LUNA VACHON & VAMPIRO

Brock and Sable quickly go after both Luna & Vampiro at the bell and just pound away at the two borderline crazies.  Vampiro gets caught by a big suplex by Brock, followed by a clothesline and just decides it's not worth it.  He rolls out of the ring and just walks away - heading up the ramp.  Luna realizes that Vampiro is deserting her and tries to follow, but Sable catches her by the hair.  Fists by Sable and a big Sable Bomb.  Sable covers for two, but pulls Luna up.  That's not enough! F-5 by Sable on Luna as Brock  cheers her on. Cover and pin.
WInners:  BROCK LESNAR & SABLE

We go back now where Terri Runnels is standing by with the WCW World Champion, Sean O'Haire.  O'Haire talks about the history of the title he wears on his waist and how proud he is to be the champ.  Tonight, he's going against what was probably once the toughest man in wrestling.  He's a true legend and icon.  But while Harley WAS great, Sean IS great now!  And he's the champ.  They're in a cage and Sean has no doubt that they're both going to bleed and end up hurting. But the difference for him is that Harley Race is a legend, but he's a Horseman.  And that makes him just that much better.  As for Hulk Hogan, if the master politician wants to get involved, that's OK.  O'Haire just got off the phone with another master politician who is very close to all of the Horsemen.  He's got a magnificent thing going on up North right now, or he'd probably be here.  But he filled Sean in on all of Hogan's tricks and what to watch out for.  And Race's tricks too!  Sean is ready for anything.  And when the night is done, O'Haire and the Horsemen will keep the WCW World Championship.  Sean dedicates this match to Woman who is watching at home and says a quick prayer for her before walking away.

Back to the ring and David Penzer...

RETIREMENT MATCH - IF X-PAC LOSES, HE IS "FIRED" FROM WCW
SEAN "X-PAC" WALTMAN versus CYRUS

Cyrus attacks Waltman at the bell and quickly beats him down in the corner with punches and kicks.  A slam and cover for two.  Cyrus kicks away and goes for another slam.  He tells the referee to be ready to count and drops an elbow for another two.  Cyrus is blaming the referee for slow counts and whips Waltman into the corner.  He runs in and gets caught by a big boot by Waltman. Neckbreaker by X-Pac and a big slam.  Dropkick by X-Pac as Cyrus pulls himself up and Cyrus gets knocked to the floor.  X-Pac flies with a suicide dive that connects, driving Cyrus into the ring barrier.  Waltman goes to whip Cyrus into the ringpost, but Cyrus reverses and Waltman goes flying over the steel steps. Punches and a choke by Cyrus.  He rolls X-Pac into the ring and covers to get two.  Cyrus whips X-Pac into the ropes and sets for a backdrop, but X-Pac catches him with the "X-Factor" instead. A whip into the corner by Waltman and it's Bronco Busting time.  Waltman pulls Cyrus out of the corner and delivers an enzaguri.  Cyrus is down and out.  Waltman stands over him and does the "DX" crotch chop before covering for the pin.
Winner:  SEAN "X-PAC" WALTMAN

Another video promo airs for the next big WCW PPV - coming on June 11. 2006.  It's WCW Bash At The Beach..

The cage is coming down as we see a video profiling all three participants in the main event.   We go to David Penzer for the introductions.

TRIPLE THREAT CAGE MATCH - WCW WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
SEAN O'HAIRE (c) versus HARLEY RACE versus HULK HOGAN

Before the referee can ring the bell, we see the face of WCW Owner Eric Bischoff on the big screen Nitrotron.  He has an announcement.  This triple-threat cage match is under elimination style rules.  If an man, say like Hogan, is pinned or submits, the match will continue with only, say Race and O'Haire... as it was originally supposed to be.  Hogan starts to complain, but he's quickly rolled up by Harley Race. O'Haire adds his body weight to Race's and you have two men covering Hogan.  The ref counts three and Hogan has been eliminated!

Hogan is pissed off and complaining as the referee tells him to go to the back.  "It's not over! - This is crap!", mutters Hogan as he stalks up the rampway to the back.

The referee signals for O'Haire and Race to lock up and we've got ourselves a cage match.  It goes back and forth as both men are repeatedly slammed hard into the cage.  O'Haire is the first one busted open as Race catches him with a stiff left right above the eye.  Race quickly turns into a bloody mess as well as O'Haire tries to run his face through the steel mesh of the cage.  In the end, we see Race attempt a diving headbutt from the top turnbuckle.  O'Haire manages to move and Race crashes hard to the mat.  Sean pulls himself up and plants Race with a devastating superkick to the chin.  O'Haire climbs to the top rope and then on up to the top of the cage.  Swanton by O'Haire from the top of the cage and he comes crashing down with all of his weight across the chest of Race. O'Haire covers and the referee counts three.
Winner and still WCW WORLD CHAMPION:  SEAN O'HAIRE

The referee raises O'Haire's arm in victory as Schiavone screeches that they're out of time.  See you on Nitro!

THE END...
